On December 16, 2025, the New Year’s Meeting event was held at the UNESCO AGH Chair in Building U2. The meeting was a unique opportunity to learn about Christmas and New Year traditions in Kraków and gathered participants for a joint celebration and exchange of cultural experiences.
The event began with a lecture by Prof. Janusz Szpytko, Director of the UNESCO AGH Chair, who presented the rich traditions and customs of the holiday season in the Małopolska region. His presentation covered both historical and contemporary aspects of holiday celebrations.
After the presentation, the invited guests and UNESCO AGH Chair fellows participated in a festive reception, where they could taste traditional pastries from the Kraków-based Starowicz confectionery, including the Zygmunt Bell and Queen Bona. The holiday atmosphere was enhanced by Christmas decorations, including beautifully adorned Christmas trees.
A special moment during the event was the wish-making ceremony, where participants hung ornaments on the Christmas tree while sharing their wishes for the upcoming year.
The event was not only an opportunity for integration and the exchange of experiences but also a moment of joy and communal celebration within the UNESCO AGH Chair community. Participants were also given small gifts.

The New Year’s Meeting created a warm and festive atmosphere, bringing together the AGH academic community and UNESCO AGH Chair fellows in a shared celebration of traditions, culture, and hopes for the coming year.
